stack-606 - Release Notes

Release Date:

Summary

This release focuses on stability for the Curator App's metadata grid, where several contributors had run into data-entry problems while annotating datasets. The most significant fix addresses a bug where edits made to a grid cell could silently fail to save, putting contributor work at risk without any warning. Related fixes resolve blank data while scrolling large grids and metadata that failed to display after a CSV upload.

Alongside the Curator fixes, this release lays groundwork for two upcoming governance features: a more flexible, schema-based way to define Access Requirements, and improvements to how in-progress Data Use Certificate (eDUC) signature requests are corrected and filtered. It also corrects the sender identity on Docusign governance emails.

In total, 11 items were completed in this release.

No breaking changes or required user actions are included in this release.

New Features

Curator Grid: Remove Unwanted Columns New

Curators can now remove a column from a metadata grid when it is no longer needed, rather than leaving unused columns cluttering the view. This applies to columns that are not required by the grid's underlying schema.

Who benefits: Data curators managing metadata grids with evolving or custom column sets.

Foundation for Schema-Based Access Requirements New

This release adds the underlying services for creating, updating, and searching reusable form templates that will power a new, more flexible way to define Access Requirements using structured schemas. This is backend groundwork; there is no visible change yet, but it sets the stage for a more consistent and configurable access request experience in a future release.

Who benefits: Access Requirement administrators, in an upcoming release.

Fixes & Improvements

Curator App: Edits No Longer Silently Discarded

Fixed a critical bug where typed values and dropdown selections in a metadata grid cell could revert to blank after being entered, with no error or warning shown. This affected both free-text and dropdown fields and could cause contributors to lose annotation work without realizing it.

Who benefits: All contributors annotating datasets through the Curator App.

Curator App: Scrolling No Longer Shows Blank Data

Fixed an issue where scrolling down in a metadata grid to view additional rows would sometimes display a blank area instead of the expected data.

Who benefits: Curators working with larger metadata grids.

Curator App: Fixed Invisible Entries After Upload

Fixed a bug where values submitted in an uploaded CSV were saved correctly but did not appear in the standard grid view, requiring a contributor to open a cell for editing just to see the value was there.

Who benefits: Contributors uploading metadata via CSV.

Curator App: Expanded File Format Options and Fixed Age Validation

Added several valid file format options (including hdf5, tsv, and gz) that were missing from the file format dropdown, and fixed an issue where entering a whole number in an age field was incorrectly flagged as invalid.

Who benefits: Contributors annotating files using the standard metadata dictionary.

Entity Pages: Consistent Menu Spacing

Adjusted spacing so the Project Info menu and Project Tools menu use the same visual gap, improving consistency across Project entity pages.

Who benefits: All users browsing Project pages.

eDUC: More Reliable Signature Corrections

Improved how in-progress Data Use Certificate signature requests are updated when changes are made after some signers have already signed, so a single problem signer can be corrected without requiring everyone else to sign again.

Who benefits: Data Access Committee staff managing multi-signer data use certificates.

eDUC: Server-Side Filtering for Access Requests

Added the ability to filter data access requests on the server rather than in the browser, improving performance for views that show only a subset of requests. This supports an upcoming "in-flight signatures" view.

Who benefits: Data Access Committee staff, in an upcoming release.

Corrected Docusign Sender Identity

Governance-related Docusign envelopes now show as coming from the Synapse Governance Team instead of an individual staff member's name.

Who benefits: Recipients of governance documents sent for signature.

Fixed Server Error When Binding Schemas to Entities

Resolved a server error that could occur when binding a JSON schema to an entity. This was an internal reliability fix with no ongoing user-facing impact.
